Mission Statement

1."Reputation" is the sum of perceptions of an individual or organization. These perceptions materially affect social and commercial outcomes.

2."Reputation management" is the establishment, maintenance, restoration and safekeeping of reputation.

3. ORMA is an association of individuals and organizations:

  1. a.who recognize the profound implications of reputation for personal and professional development:

  2. b.who recognize the importance of reputation as a competitive and differentiating asset for business -- online and offline;

  3. c.who recognize the unique challenges for managing reputation in an online environment;

  4. d.who acknowledge that online reputation risk is now on boardroom and leadership agendas;

  5. e.who exchange and develop ideas, insights and best practices for managing reputation online; and

  6. f.who seek to educate the public, institutions and organizations on these critical issues.

4.The online environment presents unique challenges for managing reputation today:

  1. a.individuals and organizations have the power -- at minimal or no cost -- to broadcast truthful information, as well as hearsay and rumors, to an unlimited audience worldwide;

  2. b.the Internet creates a permanent record of communications online for posterity; and

  3. c.the "archival" nature of the Internet makes all information, good and bad, easily searchable and discoverable at virtually no cost.

5. ORMA seeks to share and build knowledge and a set of best practices for helping to manage reputations in a rapidly changing online environment.

6. In fulfilling its mission, ORMA considers reputation management in the greater context of cherished values such as free speech, privacy and honesty and fair dealing in commerce.
